Kitsfest - kitsilano beach
We stumbled across this festival at kits beach last year when kelby and tricia were visiting and it was kind of a big deal. Tons of people, vendors, sports. So when we saw on the urban rec website that volleyball amateurs such as ourselves could enter the kits fest Saturday & Sunday coed 4s tourney, we jumped at the chance.
Day 1 on Saturday began with breakfast pizza and games beginning at 9am. We quickly realized we were getting our tushes kicked by everyone we played. On one hand the tough competition and our back to back losses were a bit hard to swallow, but on the other hand, we were spending a beautiful weekend on a gorgeous beach and really feeling a part of this awesome beach volleyball culture that we have become so drawn to. By 1pm, our portion of the tourney was over and we spent the rest of the afternoon in the corona beer garden watching the pro 2s men and women compete. Wow their play and their bodies are oh so inspiring. That’s some sexy volleyball. Day 2 began at noon with ice cold caesars while we watched the pros play some more. Our tourney began a short while later and again we had a character building day (read, we lost). But on the bright side our last couple of games were among our best and most competitive. Ending on a high note feels good. After the vball we enjoyed a cold frosty one in the beer garden. We ended the day with a gorgous sunset and a beach bbq, dreaming of sailing and scuba diving and surfing. Bailie saw some magical dolphins that the rest of us somehow missed (Love that Bailie). And we witnessed a parrot run away- oops, i mean fly away from his owner and get swarmed by seagulls and crows, which was quite odd. All in all it was a pretty sweet weekend of Vancouver living. We hope the parrot is okay, and we hope to see some dolphins soon. oh yeah, and of course one more thing...the great grill swap occurred between Bryan and our blue grill and George and his orange grill. Anyone who knows Bryan, knows definitely that orange is his fav colour. Well, it turns out George's favourite colour was blue. So there you have it. Both parties walked away happy customers. Further proof that you don't get what you don't ask for...
