BreakAway Retreat FAQs

Is it a vacation?
Not exactly. Do we hope that our guests leave with the same sense of freedom, rejuvenation and energy that any good vacation brings? Of course!
But this is also meant specifically for those looking to make change and willing to do the work to get there.

Is it a crewed charter?
No. This is a collaborative group trip where we all work together on the common goal of freedom, taking a leap toward happiness and navigating the waters of major life change. Everyone onboard will take part in preparing a few meals, helping to ready the boat for sail and settling into our anchorage after.

What’s the cost?
We are trying to keep the cost sharing at or below a typical weeklong crewed charter in the region despite the fact we hope/plan to add far more value to those aboard by providing not only one of the best weeks you could imagine, but also a chance to make great change in your own life path at the same time.
We anticipate that the cost-sharing will be in the 4-6k range.

What is NOT included?
Roundtrip airfare/transportation to and from the Grenadines; any beach bars, lobster BBQs or other onshore excursions you decide to take in while exploring the islands will be up to you. We will have provisioned/stocked the boat before your arrival and assuming an average consumption there will be more than plenty of meals, snack, drinks (and water and power) onboard.

What will be included?
Turquoise waters, sugar soft sand, fresh breezes, clear skies and stars, epic sunsets and sunrises, rainbows and enough deep breaths to last you long after you return home. A fully stocked fridge, pantry and bar while on board, your own berth (double occupancy with shared bath/shower), 2 kayaks and a dinghy for getting around each location, and hosts that are not only super excited about the life change you’re pursuing, but emphatic about helping you get there!

Tell me, what is it you plan to do with your one wild and precious life?

Is this for couples only?
Absolutely not! Space on board is limited and the trip is currently planned as double occupancy… but if you prefer to join on your own, and also want your own berth... that can be arranged. Email us with details.

Are you licensed life coaches?
No. We are simply a couple who decided to make great change on or own lives and trying to help others who want to do the same by sharing with 100% transparency what worked (and didn’t work) for us, and by sharing some of the activities, exercises, and conversations that have helped us navigate the journey along the way.

Is this a true “week in the life” aboard?
That is very much our intent, but be careful what you ask for! ;)
A true week in the life aboard a sailboat means we actually have no idea of (or control over) the things that could go wrong. Our itinerary could be changed dramatically (or outright cancelled) by weather, our head or watermaker could break or stop working and/or someone could get sick and need attention.
Obviously we always hope none of the above, but they are also completely out of our control and possibilities whenever you’re aboard. The safety and comfort of our crew and vessel are of the utmost importance and always our highest priority.

Are results guaranteed?
No. That’s (unfortunately) not how life change works.
This is us offering to be a partner in the process and helping as we can by sharing the exercises, thoughts and paths that led to our freedom; and helping work through scenarios and paths towards reaching your own.

What kind of boat is it?
Our floating home is a 2016 Catana Bali 4.0 Catamaran.
It’s a 40’ long luxury cruising catamaran with 3 berths (2 guest berths with a shared head). The Bali is unique in terms of modern catamarans as it has an indoor/outdoor layout that feels much larger than other boats its size and also had an abundance of outdoor “lounge” space. It is extremely comfortable both under sail and sitting in a protected bay.
If helpful, we filmed a Bali 4.0 boat tour last year.

Are there limitations to who can attend?
Very few. Sailing and living aboard can be somewhat taxing and does require a decent amount of physical activity.
As such, you should be in some level of decent physical shape/ability and hopefully not prone to horrible seasickness (for your own pleasure and safety).

Who is this trip NOT for?
If you’re suffering from major physical or emotional distress, if you’re extremely afraid of the water, get massively seasick and medications don’t help, if you are closed off to the idea that change is possible, or if you don’t like dogs (or are allergic)… than this trip may not be the best fit for you. Also fair to say, that if you are uncomfortable sharing space with others, if you’re not interested in rolling up your sleeves and taking part in the collaborative group experience, or if you simply cant play well with others… than this might not be the best fit for you.

How large is the group?
While we would love to bring everyone aboard who is interested, we are limited by the number of berths (beds) onboard. Our max capacity is 6people (4 crew-guests and us, which obviously also includes Karma the wonderdog).

What if I have Menu/Dietary restrictions?
We will be sharing meals (as well as some cooking/cleaning responsibilities onboard), but can work around most restrictions as long as you let us know early about the limitations. We will do a major provisioning before your arrival and will do our best within local availability to adjust meals/menus (and to catch as much local/sustainably harvested food as we can along the way!).

Will I learn how to sail (or fish, or lobster or freedive)?
We will do some of all of the above onboard, and (as with all activities during your stay) we will expect everyone to take part as active crew (in sailing, cooking, cleaning, etc). We will obviously share tips and tricks related to sailing, living nomadically at sea, etc…but this is not intended to be a sailing course. We won’t make you clean the bottom or maintain the engines, though you’re more than willing to join in if you like for the sake of experience!

Is this only for those looking/planning to live on a boat?
Absolutely not! Life change can take many forms. In fact ours already has, and we are convinced it will again.
Because the Breakaway Retreats take place on a cruising catamaran, we can obviously see some added value to those who want to experience “a week in the life” of living aboard… but this is intended for those looking to make any major life change, whatever shape that might take for you.

Where will we go ad how do I get there?
Click here for a Sample Itinerary for our upcoming June 2020 Breakaway Retreat.
Depending on where you’re flying in from, you will likely find the best flights into Barbados, where you can arrange a short hopper flight (via Liat or Mustique airlines) into Union Island.
From North America, you may also find flights into St Vincent and take either a short hopper flight or a passenger ferry to Union Island.

Don’t see your question here?? Email us and we’ll answer as best we can!!
